The American Cancer Society recommends that women age 40 and older get yearly mammograms. This October and November, join other Iowa women as we talk about why a woman decides whether or not to get screened for breast cancer. What are YOUR mammotives?
My mom, mother of five, was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 36 and was gone before her 39th birthday. My sisters and I have been getting annual mammograms since a relatively early age. As the mother of two girls and just turning 39 myself (the birthday my mom never saw), I encourage women to discuss with their provider when mammography screening is appropriate for them. We need to take care of ourselves if we hope to be able to care for others.
